Good news for iPhone owners! Google Voice has finally arrived on iPhone 3.0 platform, not as an iTunes app, but as a web-app! According to Google Voice blog, the web-app is powered by the latest HTML5 technology, which makes it possible to run faster, richer web-based applications right in the browser.
The Google Voice web application can be accessed by visiting m.google.com/voice on your mobile device and works with phones running iPhone 3.0 software and above and Palm webOS.
In addition to letting you access a streamlined version of your Google Voice inbox, the new web app also lets you display your Google Voice number as the outbound caller ID (so return calls come back to your Google Voice number), send and receive text messages for free, and place international calls at Google Voice’s low rates.
Unfortunately Google Voice is still invite-only, which means that iPhone and Palm webOS users who haven’t received a Google Voice invite are still out of luck. It is no secret that Apple and Google have been involved in a nasty legal battle over (un)approval of Google Voice app by Apple’s app store. Harnessing the advantages of the latest web technology – HTML5, Google has again demonstrated its technical prowess over its competitors. Check out the demo video below
